An old proverb says –‘Health is Wealth’. It is really important to take care of your health if you want to live a happy life. Arun Jaitley, the Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs launched the world’s largest government-funded health scheme – ‘Ayushman Bharat’ in the Parliament while reading the Budget for 2018-19.
Under the healthcare programme Ayushman Bharat, the Modi government will be opening 1.5 lakh free healthcare centers offering free medications to the people. National Health Protection Scheme is also the part of Ayushman Bharat initiative taken by the government. It will be protecting 10 crore Indian families with a health insurance of Rs.5 lakh for each individual. Rs. 1200 crore has been allocated to this flagship program.
Ayushman Bharat – The Weak Side
Despite a good initiative taken by the government, a number of mouths are opening up pointing on the weaker side of Ayushman Bharat. MP Anurag Thakur claimed that this programme is good for the deprived classes of the society and will only benefit the weaker class. He further added that the entire budget revolves around the benefits of the common man.
Many believe it to be a publicity stunt to get higher votes in the Elections of 2019. The government is willing to launch the new medical provisions, but where are the doctors? The government wants to solve this problem by letting the ayurveds and homeopaths to take up the bridge examination and become allopaths.
If the bridge course is the answer to this question then why not there is a bridge course for the clerks to become an IPS or a judge. The government claims that 24 new medical colleges and hospitals will be set up but who knows when the government lasts. The upbringing of the new government might shut down this ambitious looking road to healthcare.
Ayushman Bharat – The Strong Side
Though Ayushman Bharat programme received a lot of criticism, a number of industrialists, bureaucrats, and even the common men have come-up in support of this healthcare initiative by the Modi government.
Tapan Singhal (CEO and MD, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance), Preetha Reddy (Vice Chairman, Apollo Hospitals), Satish Reddy (Chairman, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories), and many top industrialists termed it as a game changer program by the government. It is one of the best initiatives ever taken by the government of any country towards the healthcare of its citizens.
The families of people fighting from life-threatening diseases like Cancer, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, etc need not rush to the moneylenders to borrow money at huge interest rates for the treatment. The government will help them to get a free treatment under the National Health Protection Scheme.
The Last Words
The Finance Minister firmly believes that these two initiatives under the Ayushman Bharat Programme will lead to a New India 2022 and will avert wage loss, impoverishment, and will also boost the productivity. These schemes will also create thousands of job opportunities, especially for women of India.
